I like the concept but one caveat I have is, how do you apply this rule to stopping a bad habit, or say you are trying to quit something like smoking, alcohol, or you want to eat more vegetables and less junk food。 How does the counting of 5-4-3-2-1 help with that, in these cases it's the decision that you DON"T want to make rather than doing it。 ( ex: you don't want to consume that substance, you don't want to do that action that is a bad habit in your life。 ) So I'd be interested to know that。 I like the concept but one caveat I have is, how do you apply this rule to stopping a bad habit, or say you are trying to quit something like smoking, alcohol, or you want to eat more vegetables and less junk food。 How does the counting of 5-4-3-2-1 help with that, in these cases it's the decision that you DON"T want to make rather than doing it。 ( ex: you don't want to consume that substance, you don't want to do that action that is a bad habit in your life。 ) So I'd be interested to know that。 。。。more

I love Mel Robbins and everything she preaches。 The 5 second rule concept is wonderful and absolutely helpful。 I just felt this book was REALLY repetitive。 There could have been more science and fewer testimonials, but overall it was helpful。

Great concept and new way of thinking! Book is mostly just testimony from others via twitter, Facebook posts, emails。 Not a ton of science and explanation but still a great concept。

It's amazing that Mel Robbins has been able to write so much about a process that takes 5 seconds to explain。 The first third of the book is enjoyable as it is well written and includes interesting stories but then it becomes simply repetitive and self-congratulatory。 Still, the concept seems solid and worth testing。 It's amazing that Mel Robbins has been able to write so much about a process that takes 5 seconds to explain。 The first third of the book is enjoyable as it is well written and includes interesting stories but then it becomes simply repetitive and self-congratulatory。 Still, the concept seems solid and worth testing。 。。。more

Though the book is very repetitive, its filled with peoples stories of using the 5-4-3-2-1 method and affecting their life in a meaningful way and I'm happy they were able to make the steps required to create positive change。 We all do some form of Mels 5-4-3-2-1 to get ourselves moving to accomplish something we don't really want to do。 The most interesting part of the book was her concept of how feelings are what get in the way of us accomplishing what we need to do - to become the best versio Though the book is very repetitive, its filled with peoples stories of using the 5-4-3-2-1 method and affecting their life in a meaningful way and I'm happy they were able to make the steps required to create positive change。 We all do some form of Mels 5-4-3-2-1 to get ourselves moving to accomplish something we don't really want to do。 The most interesting part of the book was her concept of how feelings are what get in the way of us accomplishing what we need to do - to become the best version of us ( we just need to be more conscious of it)。 Live for today because tomorrow isn't guaranteed。 。。。more

I love learning and have always felt it’s very important to continue to evolve as a human being。 When we aren’t learning we aren’t growing。 Growth is and can be down right hard。 Nothing about growth is easy because it pushes us outside our comfort zone。 The 5 Second Rule teaches you had to drown out the noise and break the barrier to do what you were born to do。The 5 second rule will grant you the courage to push yourself to your greatest potential and keep pushing until you get what you want。 F I love learning and have always felt it’s very important to continue to evolve as a human being。 When we aren’t learning we aren’t growing。 Growth is and can be down right hard。 Nothing about growth is easy because it pushes us outside our comfort zone。 The 5 Second Rule teaches you had to drown out the noise and break the barrier to do what you were born to do。The 5 second rule will grant you the courage to push yourself to your greatest potential and keep pushing until you get what you want。 Five stars is not enough! 。。。more

kinda dogshit。 the 5 second rule encapsulates everything i hate about the self-help genre—it pins responsibility for failure onto individuals, indirectly accusing them of being lazy and not wanting the best for themselves rather than taking a holistic approach and acknowledging systemic issues and barriers that prevent people from succeeding。 the inclusion of excessive social media posts and emails are a prime example of survivorship bias, and there's an unnerving amount of mlm promotion within kinda dogshit。 the 5 second rule encapsulates everything i hate about the self-help genre—it pins responsibility for failure onto individuals, indirectly accusing them of being lazy and not wanting the best for themselves rather than taking a holistic approach and acknowledging systemic issues and barriers that prevent people from succeeding。 the inclusion of excessive social media posts and emails are a prime example of survivorship bias, and there's an unnerving amount of mlm promotion within the posts (ex。 author apparently attended some sort of "scentsy family reunion" [part 2, pg。 67], person who is a "distributor" for a skin care line and hesitating to call contacts [part 2, pg。 71])。 also, author claims to have researched rosa parks (part 2, pg。 68) because she encapsulates courage or something, yet fails to mention (or doesn't know that) her behaviour on the bus was planned and backed up by civil rights groups in order to challenge racist legislation? idk i'm probably going to finish the book because i just got it at the library but there's not much to be found here other than mel robbin's entire twitter feed。 。。。more

I read this a while back, but was completely underwhelmed。 I can't believe a whole book was written on a concept of counting back from 5 to accomplish tasks - I tried it and it didn't work for me。 However, most of the book was testimonials。 I read this a while back, but was completely underwhelmed。 I can't believe a whole book was written on a concept of counting back from 5 to accomplish tasks - I tried it and it didn't work for me。 However, most of the book was testimonials。 。。。more
